Rolls Royce

Risk Consultancy

Brief: The Group plc wanted to create a dashboard tool for reputation on the risk radar. It also wanted to incorporate reputation within the corporate risk register.

Activity: A dashboard tool was designed to measure gaps between stakeholder expectation and corporate activity in several key performance areas. The gap analysis used a traffic light system of colour coding to highlight areas where the gap was widest and remedial action needed. Reputation was added to the risk register through creating a scale based on the resources required to secure recovery of trust following any incident from high to low trust damage.

Executive education

Brief: The central government department for education was concerned about its reputation among many stakeholders, especially those who were considered service delivery partners.

Activity: A review of stakeholder relationships was conducted for the senior management team. This provided a snapshot of key risks to mitigate. It specifically distinguished between those requiring a ‘quick fix’ and those needing longer term cultural change. A report on stakeholder relationship needs provided a blueprint for management priorities and a platform for a subsequent action by the Communications team within the department.

Governance Counsel

Brief: Professional association for management accountants was anxious to provide thought leadership advice for its members to explain the term principal risk in the new Companies Act.

Activity: A series of interviews was conducted among senior figures across several industry sectors. The interviews were collated into a brochure for CIMA to provide guidance on interpretation and reporting. The brochure was used by the institute to provide its members with information necessary to enable them to fulfil their advisory function more effectively and with greater authority.  It also acted to build member retention as part of the member benefits.
